FAQ -HAIR EXTENSIONS
HOW DO YOU COLOUR MATCH ACCURATELY?
A colour ring from the company the extensions are coming from needs to be matched in person to your hair. For most people, the hair on the head can be made up of many shades either natural highlights and lowlights or bleached/dyed. Dependant on the effect you are looking for the extensions will use the colour ring with your hair to find the best matches. If you are wanting to change the colour of your hair, this needs to be done ideally 3 weeks before your colour match to allow the colour to settle. If you colour match before you have your hair dyed it is likely your extensions will not match. Bear in mind your extensions cannot be bleached and should not be dyed after to match your freshly dyed hair and if you do then any guarantees from the supplier will be void.
HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH HAIR IS NEEDED?
The experience of your installer will be able to help you to decide how much hair you will need. The amount of hair that the extensions will buy depends on a few factors. The thickness of your natural hair, the length you are looking for- the longer the desired result, the more volume you also need to have installed and the fullness you wish to achieve ie half head or full head. Between hair types there are slight variances also.
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DIFFERENCES IN PRICES?
Hair extensions are like anything else- you get what you pay for. You can pay less and pay for hair that lasts a few washes or 3-6 months with good aftercare or 1-3 years with great aftercare. There are different types, from least expensive to most expensive; synthetic (man-made) human and animal mixes, 100% human or Remy. Within those categories there are different qualities. Also to note the longer the hair is, the more grams you are getting which increases the cost. On top of that the extensionist who is fitting has to go through training to gain skills and knowledge, pay for insurance, taxes and to rightfully earn a wage.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FIT?
This varies due to type of installation and the current state of your hair. If you need a previous installation removing this will increase the time. Also the amount of styling after your installation will affect the time scale. Your extensionist will be able to give you a rough guide but I would allow a couple of hours.
IS IT NECESSARY TO BOOK A CONSULTATION?
The consultation is a must for any new client or for an existing client if there are any changes in lifestyle, health, hair colour, hair condition or a long period of time has passed. The consultation checks allergies, suitability, discussed aftercare and maintenance and of course the hair extensions themselves. At the consultation the payment for your hair and materials will be taken and then subsequently ordered. Your fitting appointment will also be arranged.
HOW LONG WILL MY NEW HAIR LAST?
The longevity of your new hair depends on many factors including type/ quality of your extensions and also how you look after it. This will likely mean a change in your usual hair routine and a change in the products you use in your daily hair care. To get the best longevity out of your hair you need to follow the aftercare advice really carefully.
WHAT IS A MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT FOR?
Typically a maintenance appointment would be to take out your extensions and refit them. The maintenance appointment is really important for the health of your bio hair, your scalp and to lengthen the life of your extensions. We can determine from your maintenance whether your hair is healthy enough to continue and check everything looks right. We might advise that you need to change the frequency of your maintenance or a change in method is recommended.
I HAVE MY OWN EXTENSIONS, CAN YOU USE THOSE?
As long as on inspection your extensions are suitable for the intended purpose, are clean, quality and looked after then using your own hair extensions is definitely an option.
